South Florida has a large Haitian American community. I hope they vote against Trump/Vance as a big fuck you.

I’m from South Florida and have lived next to Haitian neighbors. There’s a large Haitian community in places like Broward, Miami Dade, even Palm Beach county.
In my experience, they’re polite and friendly, they often keep to themselves, they work hard and they didn’t eat our dog…
Unfortunately, their support for Harris, and their pushing back against these demonstratively false rumors and xenophobic claims are only going to aggravate conservatives more and fuel more contempt and hatred.
This anti-immigrant fervor, despite what Trump and his supporters claim, extends to all manner of non-white foreigners and out-groups, whether they’re here legally or not, whether they’re citizens or not.
Make no mistake, they’re going to continuously look for any excuse to demonize immigrant communities, no matter if it’s steeped in dangerous and unsubstantiated misinformation.
That being said, this is as good a time as any to point out that there are *many* verses from the Bible, taken from multiple books, that underscore the hypocrisy of the religious right, Oftentimes the same message is repeated in order to emphasize its importance.
The passages are obviously going to change slightly depending on the translation, but the overall message is clear.
> Leviticus 19:34, ‘The foreigner who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the foreigner as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.’
> Genesis 23:4, I am a stranger and an alien residing among you; give me property among you for a burying place, so that I may bury my dead out of my sight.’
> Matthew 25:35, ‘I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’
> Deuteronomy 27:19, Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
> Jeremiah 7:5-7, For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place…
> Job 29:15-17, I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the unrighteous, and made them drop their prey from their teeth.
> Zechariah 7:9-10, Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the foreigner, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
> Ezekiel 47:22, You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners who reside among you and have begotten children among you. They shall be to you as citizens of Israel;
> Romans 12:13, Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
> Leviticus 19:10, “Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.”
> Deuteronomy 10:18, “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.”
> Hebrews 13:1-2, “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”
> Deuteronomy 10:19, And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
> Exodus 12:49, “The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you.”
I think the message is crystal clear. So the next time you hear some right wing biblical literalist going off on some misinformed, xenophobic, bigoted and unintelligible rant about immigrants or foreigners, show them a few of these verses. They probably won’t have a change of heart, that’d be expecting too much of them, but they may shut up…

According to the stats, Haitians already vote overwhelmingly democratic.

I am really saddened that a community who were just trying to make a living, keep their heads down, and live a life free of fear have been targeted this much and vilified generally.
And now if Trump wins, there are talks of further traumatizing this community by essentially relegating them as illegals (reversing their legal protected status) and potentially deporting them.
This is not something that as Americans our conscience and humanity can allow and we must speak up with the powerful voice we have, at the polling booth.

Regular everyday people who were just trying to make a life for themselves and their families didn’t need to be thrown into this media circus. I wish the best for their communities.
