I often see redditors try to defend the catholic church here by saying “This happens in all religious organizations, the catholic church is no different”.. and I can’t quite tell if they are catholics defending their religion, or atheists making a criticism of all religions.
Either way it comes across weird. We should call out the abuse when and where we see it.

This is a self selected study in the UK, which is already extremely irreligious and wasn’t very Catholic beforehand. I’m a little curious about what we can actually learn from it.
