The machine gun is an MG3, btw. There’s almost no 8mm ammo in Myanmar for MG42s.

I would guess the Flip Flops are actually better than Jungle/Combat Boots in this case.
blend into populace easier, Easier to repair or replace, and Foot Health is improved by having less Trench Foot. cant replace your socks like any US Marine or Vietnam vet would be able to.
they have decent gear, its hard to believe no boots/Closed toes shoes isnt a conscious choice.
