I’m skeptical, but if this turns out to be true it will mean that the GOP has finally arrived at the reckoning in which it must choose between alienating the core of its base or alienating the other 75% of Americans, and there is no compromise to be found.

This mutated version of Christianity that the fanatic right are pushing is not at all based on the teachings of Jesus, but rather — like the corrupted Islam that is held aloft by fundamentalist terrorist groups worldwide — a means to an end. The MAGA faction is holding the Ark of the Covenant before it like the Nazis in *Raiders of the Lost Ark*, but they’re no more religious than the face-melty Germans in that film were — the objective is simply power. Both four-letter organizations believe that they have the invincibility of religion on their side, carrying them to inevitable victory.
The main difference between MAGA and Stephen Spielberg’s fictional bad guys is, of course, that in our case God Hisself isn’t going to come down and vaporize the Trumpers where they stand in the climactic final scene, much as we’d all like Him to. That job — however figurative it has to be in the real world — is on the voters.

Christian values emphasize compassion, humility, and honesty, with the Bible urging us to care for the marginalized and love our neighbors. If you believe that aligns with Trump’s actions, it’s possible you’ve been misled by the devil’s deceptions. It’s time to break free from these chains and lift the veil of darkness that has clouded your vision.
Also, if you are a fake Christian voting for a fake Christian for selfish reasons, that’s okay. It’s a free election. Would be nice tho if you stopped pretending. Nobody is buying it.
PS. I’m not religious at all. Just wanted to be upfront with that.

Aside from any revulsion over Trump himself, I imagine a lot of evangelicals are reevaluating what it means to be the dog who caught the car, i.e., banning abortion. A lot of them probably were genuinely surprised at the pain this would cause even among the “wrong” people in their view. Not that they’d ever admit they were mistaken, but they probably just want to avoid thinking about it at this point.
Staying at home might be just the thing they’d do if they can see Trump is such a flawed tool for achieving a goal they don’t want quite as fervently as before.
