I asked him once about Ted Cruz, as my friend worked for a sane Republican who got primaried and ousted by a MAGA type. He paused for a moment and said just this. “I’ve seen people I know who hate each other duck into side rooms and literally hide together if they see Ted Cruz coming down the hall. Rank and File, leadership.. it doesn’t matter. None of them like him.”

Even if most Republicans are MAGA, not all of them are. The problem with in-party division is that you need the support of BOTH contingents in order to win.
