Two scenarios leading to Liberal oblivion – Canadians will reject the Grits in the next election if Trudeau stays put, or ‘boring’ Mark Carney ascends to the throne.

  1. Not a plc voter but if Carney ever stood a real chance to become the next lpc figurehead with some credibility, he should never have join the current bunch.

Mark Carney is likely to be the bad tasting medicine this country needs. He is likely going to suggest policy moves that will be unfavourable by liberal candidates and their older voter base who rely on passive investments. I think Carney is likely eyeing policy moves that aim to increase productivity and steer capital away from rent seeking behavior.

I could do with some boring Canadian politics again.

Just give us electoral reform please so we never have to do this Anyone But The Other Guy again.

There is no realistic scenario where Liberals win the next election. The pendulum has swung. It’s been known to happen in democracies every 8-10 years.

What remains in question is how badly the Liberals will lose. The best they can hope for is a reverse 2015 where they lose but still hold on to a respectable 80-100 seats and comfortably form Official Opposition. The worst case scenario, though, which is becoming more and more of a possibility, is an even worse result than 2011 and being relegated to fourth-party status.

Hope people understand that voting for Poilievre is NOT going to help anyone. Conservatives are well known for massive cuts to our healthcare and social programs. We need a centrist party to have fiscal responsibility yet also move forward with progressive policies. Yes the NDP was in an agreement with the LPC but I think they deserve a fair shot at even holding a minority parliament. There needs to be a major shift in this country but cuts are not the way to do this.
