To my untrained medieval eye; one side came with sticks, the other forgot theirs. The side that forgot theirs (the Chinese) was getting surged forward by the people from behind, and those at front who realized this was a bad idea since they had no sticks themselves. This led to a panic by the Chinese, some climbing over their comrades to retreat.
Essentially, the Chinese came to a stick fight bare handed, lost the stick battle fight, and got taunted afterwards.
The Chinese fell back to gather sticks and lick their wounds, and now the stone wall is now firmly defended by the Indian special forces contingent of stick welders.
