  1. Makes absolute sense. I bet Florida wouldn’t have been hit that hard by the hurricane if there were less accurate predictions about and data on it!

Turns out the country that didn’t have barbarians at the gates had barbarians within the gates

  3. Is this like when Donald didn’t want to test so much for Covid. Isn’t that the Ostrich school where you stick your fingers in your ear and go nanananana?

  4. I get the “less information, better controlled population” bit of fascism, but what exactly does a Trump presidency get out of this? Neglecting to tell states about natural disasters so economies won’t be situated until it’s too late? Or do they just want to tell everyone the country is LITERALLY filled with sunshine and rainbows everywhere with no opposing sources?

This is about climate change and the fact the NOAA’s data and scientists support the fact that climate change is occurring… something conservative republicans just can’t seem to deal with

  6. How do you break up a national weather service? A lot of weather systems cover huge swaths of the United States. What a bunch of morons.

Literally the most functional and valuable agency they want to destroy so they can become lords in their new serfdom scheme. They hate progress and science anytime it gives power to regular people, to the greater good, and to the individual—to the little guy. In this case, they want to take away the power afforded by the basic knowledge that a storm pattern is coming. MAGA is so SO evil and nasty.

It’s much easier to lie about climate change when the agency that measures its effect has been gutted.

  9. Simply because they are one of those organisations that tell governments things they don’t want to hear. The EPA will, no doubt, go as well

  10. Barry Myers, former CEO of Accuweather (current CEO is his brother) has been lobbying for years to get NOAA and the National Weather Service banned from providing easily available free weather forecasts. He wants taxpayer money to keep running the services, but make the data locked up for his paid service to provide. Trump nominated Myers to run NOAA during his first term.

…fun fact from wikipedia on Myers:

“In 2018, an investigation by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs found rampant, pervasive and severe sexual harassment at AccuWeather, and determined that the company, under Myers’s leadership, ignored the harassment and retaliated against victims who complained.”

Republican people have to be alien lizard people who will thrive in climate change. They act like lizard people, they must be.

Let me take a wild guess and say Republicans want to ‘privatize’ NOAA.

With the GOP it’s ALWAYS about greed and grift at the expense of a functioning society.

  13. Why is this a news article? The real attention grabber should be Page 750 of Project 2025 which states states they should get rid of financial recovery for people affected by natural disasters.

Highly recommend watching John Oliver’s segment on Accuweather and its owners the Myers brothers. Helps explain the right wingers’ obsession with defunding NOAA.

  15. which ELECTED republican in congress has actually introduced project 2025 into legislation? answer = zero,,, point,,, zero.

  16. thereverendpuck on

Yeah. Duck those commie socialists and their weather predicting! You don’t need this beaurcracy after we partner with COBRA and their Weather Dominator!!’

  17. Its so the guy who owns weather stuff gets the ability to make a shit tonne of money providing weather data he gets for free.

  18. Republicans won’t break up big business monopolies that could actually help the average American. But they will break up one of the most useful public services that government provides!

The evilness, malice, and stupidity of right wingers never fails to amaze me.

  19. Privatized weather forecasting is just another Republican dream. “There may be a life threatening storm about to HIT YOUR LOCATION!!! Subscribe now for details about how to avoid death. Surge pricing may apply.”

  20. People who live in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and along the Gulf coast need to know:

If Trump had been President, there would have been NO WARNING that a hurricane was coming.
