It’s well known that Russia actively messes with elections. This shouldn’t be shocking since most of what Russian propaganda does is try to divide countries.

Moldova is incredibly susceptible to Russian disinformation campaigns, half of the population are misinformed and confused already, then you’ve got the Russian enclave off to the side and the Gagauz enclave in the south who last i checked also tend to ally with Russia.
Moldova’s financial state is a direct result of USSR’s failed communist policies and USSR’s initial deal with the nazis. It’s a piece of Romania that has been torn off and has to be either reabsorbed back in locally or through EU membership – which goes directly opposite to Putin’s imperialist ambitions.
