Thinking the unthinkable: NATO wants Canada and allies to gear up for a conventional war

  1. We never should have geared down!

I’ve coined the phrase “Peace Loan” as the true and correct phrase to replace the “Peace Dividend” that the world loved to bandy about, after the fall of the Soviet Union.

We’ve taken out a *high* interest loan on the promise of global peace and stability, and reduced military spending, so that we could spend the money elsewhere. This was beyond foolish.

Like it or hate it, war is the natural state of Man. Maybe someday we’ll move beyond that, and I hope so, even if I doubt it.

Thus, anytime a nation or sphere of allied nations finds itself in a state of collective peace, we *must* remember, that there is no such thing as a dividend on peace. We don’t receive extra money for peacetime, because sooner or later, some upstart or rogue nation *will* return to conflict.

Be it evil Communist regimes, or authoritarian autocrats.

A nation at peace can never afford to become complacent, because the more you take out in ‘Peace Loans’, the more interest *and* principal, you’ll need to pay back, when the next conflict comes knocking.
