  1. I don’t see anything but escalation on the horizon. Both sides have been bombing each other for almost a year now. People should have left months ago.

  2. Things [not looking good](https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/senior-us-official-doesnt-believe-israeli-escalation-hezbollah-will) regarding de-escalation:

    >A senior official in the State Department told Reuters that the US doesn’t think Israel’s escalation to force Hezbollah to reduce tensions will lead to de-escalation.

    >Axios previously reported that Israel’s increased attacks on Lebanon were an attempt to reach “de-escalation through escalation”, and several US officials said they agreed on the strategy.

Israel is speed running the tack 80s South Africa chose of expanded war against its neighbours as a survival strategy. In the end it didn’t work.

Is there even a somewhat realistic path to peace on the table right now? Between Israel’s continuing actions stealing land in the West Bank and Hamas and Hezbollah’s continued goals of destroying Israel I see no end in sight. If Israel suddenly pulled back, set concrete borders back to 20-30 years ago and stopped all offensive actions I still don’t see their enemies backing down. By the same token, if Hamas and Hezbollah suddenly declared that Israel is no longer their enemy I doubt they would stop their land grab.
