Elon Musk’s Twitter coup has harmed the right. They are now simply ‘too online’.

  1. I will say this again and again. Republicans, at their core, are reactionaries and as such, they must have something to react against. Musk has made twitter into a right wing echo chamber that no one else really wants to participate in so many users who are not fervently right wing have left. The users who remain are terminally online right wing people who push themselves further and further to the right through weird purity tests and peacocking for one another. It won’t be long until users either start to leave twitter to seek out other people to react against or start attacking one another.

  2. This used to be “Fox News brain,” but Fox largely spun actual news in their favor. Elons world creates stuff out of thin air, and they no longer have any connection to reality at all. Because only Nazis and journalists smelling their own farts use Twitter now, no one else knows what the hell they’re talking about.

  3. I can imagine. I’m likely the same: Cortisol, the hormone created through stress, is addictive. Literally. By stressing out and experiencing fear, humans get a “hit” of Cortisol. I may well be addicted to fear.

I’m looking forward to Maga collapsing under the weight of its tired worn out toxic rhetoric .

I manage an X account for a local non-profit. It is not a political group at all. I used to find great info, resources, connections through Twitter, but now the algorithm shows me mostly political posts with way too many cute-animal videos tossed in. That is not what the algorithm used to show on the group’s feed.

    The place is wrecked.

It also created a huge echo chamber for Nazis who are convinced killing migrants is okay, and Trump is winning New York. This is not going to lead to anything good.

This goes with what I have been saying. Especially with Trump relying on support from men who are less likely to vote than women his movement moving largely online and there being indications that there is lack of enthusiasm for Trump this time, fewer yard signs, decreased rally attendance, lower donations, these online MAGAs might not get off their couch on election day and take the time to actually vote when they can get a better dopamine hit but just raging online wether or not Trump is president.

  8. Twitter/X has become an echo chamber for the right. They are able to take a mole hill and turn it into a mountain by getting replies and retweets (or whatever its called now). They also spread their conspiracy theories and fake AI videos. It has become a cesspool of right-wing propaganda and lies. They use the free speech banner to say its alright. Truth is a lie is a lie.

  9. I mean, think of how many people made the ultimate sacrifice during covid because they took dubious medical advice from unqualified strangers on YouTube and TikTok?

  10. Used to love twitter and even X was fine for a bit. But man Elon destroyed it all because Biden got more views at the Super Bowl. Look it up. I unfollowed Elon and was still getting his stupid posts a couple days later.

I didn’t enjoy Twitter before and hate it more now — just too overwhelming an amount of data to track — but I’m skeptical always skeptical about the phrase “too online” in recent years. The majority of Americans *do not* have cable packages and TV doesn’t give you over the air news anymore without an adapter, and people are not buying newspapers, so it follows that most people are either having their news come to them online or via pigeons.

I also sort of hate the way people talk about the basket of deplorables speech, which was premised on the idea that you should separate the normal Trump supporters from the weird, rude racists and Internet trolls, but has somehow become ingrained as conflating the two.

  12. At times it feels like you’re on Truth social being on Twitter. As soon as I log in I’m greeted with a Trump banner ad at the top of the screen, when I go to the search screen I’m seeing a “#comradekamala” Trump campaign ad made to look like it’s one of the top trending hashtags at the moment since it’s above the other actual trending hashtags, it’s genuinely bizarre just how hard Elon has gone in making Twitter a far right promoting platform.

Is this the ‘self-own’ phase of fascism?

A few wishlist items for Musk:
-Twitter becomes even more flaccid (and lawsuits from his backers start to roll in as their investment evaporates)

-People stop buying Teslas (at least opting for the many EV’s coming into the market from the big automakers

-NASA/Harris admin nationalize SpaceX and Starlink

  14. I just want someone to go back and collect elon’s tweets about how biased and unfair twitter was before he bought it.
