  1. There is a chronic shortage of family doctors across Canada. We had a local doctor recruitment director speak to our Rotary Club a while back and he asked how many of the 60 or so members didn’t have a family doctor. About a third of the people put up their hand. Something has to be done. I’m wondering how many of you Canadians have a family doctor. We fortunately do.

A big issue is payment for family doctors. In major cities with all the overhead of essentially being all business owners many work very long hours and don’t really see the reward for it.

It’s far more lucrative to go into other specialities and work in hospitals. ER or internal medicine make far more than a family MD.
