This is why reverse speed is important.
They had better chances to survive by trying to bail out judging by how early they realised an atgm was coming towards them and the time it took to travel tho considering soviet vehicle ergonomics I doubt it would be a different outcome.
I wonder if angling the bmp to 90° on the side would have also worked with the paper thin bmp armor just allowing the heat jet to pass through without throwing shrapnel everywhere.
