To capitalize on the sweeping success of Operation Pervo-1 the Chosen Company with the other units of the 59th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have decided to execute a bold large-scale offensive that would see the entirety of the company deployed on the battlefield. Four teams would assault, trying to push through in the village of Pervomaiske, just 10 kilometers away from Donetsk. This operation, nicknamed Pervo-2, would become their hardest and bloodiest battle.

  1. What a shitty environment to fight in, especially if you’re the one on the offensive. Lots of concealment/cover for the defenders and a terrain so hard to navigate through that wears you out and stops your momentum even before the enemy fire does.

This is Part 2 and it’s pretty brutal because it’s just them falling back and taking hits. They lose guys.

If you watch Part 1 though, it makes Part 2 even tougher to watch because, frankly, this mission seemed doomed from the start. You don’t need combat experience to wonder if walking into a frontal assault in broad daylight with no cover against a bunkered-up enemy that has drone support is a good idea. I’m really struggling to understand how they thought this would go. They were under observation from the jump, and knew it, and they were attacking fortified positions, and knew it.

I’d love to know the backgrounds of the guys running this unit because this was sketchy as fuck, and seemed like a waste of life, and of willing and able soldiers, and Ukraine can’t afford to waste anyone or anything right now.

To be clear, I have nothing but admiration for the guys doing the work. I’m frustrated about the way they were used here. This looked a bit like those Russian assaults that (rightfully) get mocked all the time, just guys in the open getting picked off.
