Streets of Caracas, Venezuela, Monday July 29, 2024. Civil war has broken out over election results
Sent to my five minutes ago by a friend on whatsapp. She told me war has broken out over the election results, with both sides claiming victory. More to come.
Really hard to tell whos a loyalist/ in bed with the police or the other way around. Venezuela has been famous for using dark clothed bokes to detain or murder protesters. Wouldnt be all too surprising if they gave pro-maduro supporters guns to shoot in air as agent provacators.

I would not call it a civil war. Not yet.

Very premature to call this civil war

Looks like a riot line that fell apart when a bunch of third party started shooting in the air. Guessing those are some kind of government entity? Police didn’t seem prepared for it but also didn’t act against them.
Not a civil war tho, just a south american election.

Bunch of people firing guns into the air, and police all standing around, unphased. What’s going on here?

Literally 1/4 of the population of that nation have fled under Maduro. Think about that. 1/4. Anyone who could get out has. In 2010 there was 30 million people.

Facts and figures: Regularization and protection of Venezuelan nationals in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile
Venezuelan migration:
More than 7.71 million Venezuelans are currently living outside of their country (as of August 2023). This amounts to over 25% of the total population of Venezuela. In June 2023, the closing date of the report Regularize and Protect, the figure was 7.32 million.
1 in 4Â people in Venezuela have fled their homes, most of them since 2018.
More than 80% of these people are in Latin America and the Caribbean. More specifically, 70% are in Colombia (2.9 million), Peru (1.5 million), Ecuador (475,000), and Chile (444,000).
Outside of Latin America and the Caribbean, the top 10 host countries include: the United States, which ranks 3rd, with 545,000 Venezuelan nationals in its territory (September 2021 figure); and Spain, in 5th position, with 477,000 (January 2022 figure).
Colombia is the largest host country for Venezuelan migrants, with at least 2.9 million, while Peru has received the most applications for refugee status from Venezuelans, with 532,000 such applications pending a decision.

Who won? Did the dictator lose and throwing a hissy fit or did he cheat and the people are pissed?

Firing in the air doesn’t seem like civil war to me. A group of people shooting at a another group of people would be a step closer. If the other group of people shot back, then that could be another step closer, maybe just the tip of a civil war. Â
Still a scary situation and video, nevertheless.Â

isn’t that a very dangerous angle to be shooting “into the air”? the bullets will still have lethal velocity wherever they’re end up
Edit: Police forces stepping down and allowing protesters past their barricades/checkpoints. Seems to be around the Pretare area. [https://x.com/reiaresnd/status/1818047946673267157#m](https://x.com/reiaresnd/status/1818047946673267157#m)
