The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) reports that frequent power outages are severely impacting the German economy. A survey of nearly 1,000 companies found that nearly one-third of them have experienced power outages lasting more than three minutes. These outages result in financial losses due to lost production and damaged machinery, often amounting to between €10,000 and €50,000. Companies are increasingly protecting themselves with backup generators and energy storage systems. The DIHK is calling for grid stability to be given a higher priority and for better information on the causes of outages in order to increase companies’ confidence in the power grids.
