A few years ago, before the pandemic, ReconAfrica had a project in the Kavango area. However, it turned out that the entire process in Kavango was mishandled, from environmental issues to hiring practices.

On the environmental front, they were accused of conducting unlicensed drilling and using water illegally. Moreover, they violated Namibian law and hired questionable consultants to address these issues. Additionally, ReconAfrica failed to provide adequate info to the locals and treated Kavango merely as a gateway to Owambo.

As a result, they faced numerous lawsuits and recently settled one with investors. If you were affected by ReconAfrica’s actions during that time, you can [check it out](https://11thestate.com/cases/reconnaissance-energy-africa-shareholder-settlement).

Personally, I find the $7M to be quite inadequate considering the damage caused. Though I still hope that justice will win in the end.
