  1. Wow – that’s a thought that hadn’t occurred to me… How many NK soldiers are seeing this as an opportunity to escape? Things in NK are so bad, I wouldn’t be surprised. Seeing as how poorly disciplined Russian soldiers are w/rt OpSec, their NK counterparts are seeing unfiltered internet, unfiltered media, who knows what else…

I’m sure there will be interesting case studies resulting from this for years.

  2. 3,000 in the unit. That’s…a lot to coordinate a desertion of that scale. Wondering if it’s a small % of it missing or the whole thing.

I bet only young men with family at home were ‘able’ to do this job because this way they can keep them hostage at home!

  4. Do north Koreans have a better sense of what’s going on outside their borders than Russians, or is it all the same sort of silo’ed/firewalled propaganda from their government sources?

Not to mention the sicknesses and viruses these guys are now exposed too. Especially going into winter. No combat experience, cold and sick, in a country that looks far from your own. These guys are going to be meat, and meat only.

  6. I mean, yeah imagine being introduced to the hell of drone warfare by seeing buzz bombs stsrt exploding guys out in the field. What military experience did these guys have in NK?

  7. It’s sad, but they’ll quickly realize all the lies they’ve been indoctrinated with…by then, however, it will be too late.

  8. Btw, Buryat is a region in russia populated by ethnic Asians. North Koreans will pretend to be Buryats fighting against Ukraine for Russia.
