    Idiots.

They’re going to kill a viable affordable project (high frequency rail) with one that is going to be too costly for people to use (high speed) with any regularity.

We need both, we need the volume handling of high frequency, and the convenience of high speed.

Have an Express limited stop Network running alongside a high frequency lower speed system.

  3. Hopefully at least something tangible will materialize from this project.

My understanding is that trains in North America cannot pass over grade crossings in excess of 110 mph (~177 km/h), so actual ‘high speed tracks’ require either: overpasses, underpasses, or permanent truncation of intersecting roads.

If you look at the progress page for the California High Speed Rail project, so much of the work is spent just building a bunch of overpasses for every little rural road that intersects the alignment.

Again, props to the feds if they can pull it off, but at this point I’d be happy to see any new tracks being built for VIA.

Hopefully my great grandchildren will be able to witness the opening of this high speed rail 200 years later.

  5. Could, should, but probably won’t. I wonder if it would be the provinces to cancel it first, or the next federal government.

  6. Lemme guess, bombardier is going to supply the trains and SNC Lavellin will do the construction designs

Not happening and if it does happen it will be 6 times over budget and not optimal for passengers then due to old design.

Toronto Montreal is not the rail need, GTA commuter traffic is the priority. The 401 past Kingston isn’t a problem
