  1. Horrid.
    >Globally, more than 370 million girls and women – or 1 in 8 – experienced rape or sexual assault in childhood. An estimated 240 to 310 million boys and men – or around 1 in 11 – also experienced such abuse.
    >“More than 1 billion women and men were subjected to such violence in childhood,” UNICEF communication specialist Sara Alhattab tells U.S. News.
    >When counting both in-person and non-contact violence, the number rises to 650 million girls and women – or 1 in 5 alive today – who have been subjected to sexual violence as children. The numbers for boys and men were estimated to be between 410 million and 530 million.

  2. *“We are witnessing horrific sexual violence in conflict zones, where rape and gender-based violence are often used as weapons of war,” UNICEF’s Executive Director Catherine Russell said about the results of the report, adding that sexual violence against children is a “stain on our moral conscience.”*

Rape and sexual violence as weapons of war is thoroughly documented in Susan Brownmiller’s classic feminist work “Against Our Will.” There is, I think, probably more children/youth victims now than when she wrote the book which focused, as I recall, more on women victims.

I’m one of them. It was my babysitter’s son when I was a toddler.

And then once again when I was a young woman by a man who assaulted me.

Makes you look at the world a lot differently.

  4. Finally they start publishing this God awful statistic. This isn’t just a third world problem either. This happens in EVERY country.

    1 in 8 girls and 1 in 11 boys.

Be a part of the solution.

  5. Boys AND girls for gods sakes. Something like 2k kids KILLED BY THEIR OWN PARENTS in the US in a year. But yeah, nice somebody sort of noticed just now. 100s of kids gone. Unaccounted for. But this isn’t an issue with any party.
