  1. He isn’t wrong but saying it now when you need the votes of the people in the 7 most empowered states by the Electoral College is probably awful timing.

  2. Boxofbikeparts on

How about they make it a priority once they are in office to abolish the EC, and also gerrymandering?

  3. And that’s the last we’ll hear of that.

Downvote me now, but come back in four years.

I hope so too but it’s not going to be easy.

    On the Missouri ballot:

    Constitutional Amendment 7
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to: Make the Constitution consistent with state law by only allowing citizens of
the United States to vote; Prohibit the ranking of candidates by limiting voters to a single vote per candidate or issue; and
Require the plurality winner of a political party primary to be the single candidate at a general election? State and local
governmental entities estimate no costs or savings.

  5. The easiest way to bring this about is to vote blue down the ticket. Then we control the majority in Congress to get a change passed.

  6. The people saying the electoral college needs to go do not understand that the electoral college prevents small areas with dense population from controlling who is elected. More populated areas that largely vote the same would dominate smaller states with less population and essentially lead to candidates ignoring rural areas, since they would not matter in the grand scheme, and only campaign in urban areas, which would likely be pointless for Republicans who are unlikely to win a blue state. This is a dangerous idea and should alarm anyone who does not live in an urban area and does not vote Democrat. Waltz and other politicians who support this idea cannot move the goal posts to fit their narrative.

  7. Republicans: “If there were no electoral college, we’d just change the places we campaign and would still win elections.”

“Okay, let’s get rid of the electoral college.”

    Republicans: “Fuck that!”

  8. I think abolishing the Electoral College makes sense; it’s frustrating how a few swing states can decide the whole election when most Americans want their votes to truly count.

Yes, its absolutely does. Its terribly outdated ans and there’s a strong argument that even in contemporary times, it was meant, in part, to supress the average working vlass voter.

While we’re tossing shit in the trash, past the post voting, which inevitably leads to a two party system that suppresses third parties, needs to also be on its way out in favor of ranked choice or some other form of voting that it more fair.

The entire federal bench needs to be reworked so that there is an actusl, practical, workable solution to holding judges to account for illegal activity and being swayed by wealthy individuals and groups, especially the SCOTUS with civilian oversight.

Either term limits need to be reinstated or there needs to be a mandatory review of judge competency and honesty every 4 or 5 years by s program that has the legal authority and process to sideline and remove judges that fail to meet a minimum standard or are proven to be taking gifts, bribes or are otherwise corrupt or being coerced or exploited.

Biden, while he still has times, needs to use his office tl undermine the Maga majority, mind you these are nkt conservatives, perhaps by adding extra seats but i really don’t know what his options are. I do know thst for the first time in US history, the SCOTUS, for Trumps sake, has ruled that we do happen to have a single office which is above the law, which is just a huge mark of their corruption but that ruling cuts both ways. While it’s in place, Biden can not be held accountable, even in violating the law or ordering others to do so. Now, I’m not suggesting that he do something illegal necessarily, but he needs to take drastic measures to undermine the SCOTUS while he has the chance.

It wouldn’t hurt either if he took incredibe, unprecedented steps to prohibit whatever foreseeable actions maga is taking from stealing the election. For years the democrats have refused to punch down, let alone fight the reoublicans in their own muck but that has led to them taking some serious losses. There’s no time for that and if Trump does manage to steal the election, as a president who is legally above the law, Biden should refuse to vacate the office and eventually pass it to Harris.

It was they that opened this Pandoras box and it will nkt get overturned by the SCOTUS until it gets abused for good, for the right reasons. (it wouldn’t even get overturned of Trump used it for corrupt purposes, we know that) He might as well make use of it for the right reasons, moral reasons and force the SCOTUS to overturn it. Not that he would, but Biden could order that the election, be postponed until a later time. It would be illegal but so what? Hes above the law. I’m not saying he should do that. Only that he should take incredible measures to ensure that would be dictator nevere sets foot in the oval office again. Hell, many of us would be ok with him blocking Trump even if he legitimately won the election. These are desperate times. We have too many issues that can afford waiting out a 2nd trump administration and all the damage he will do there. Remember how many people died needlessly because of covid and trumps non response? Families separated at the border, kids never finding their families again? With all the harm that will come, including harm around the world, democrats need to grow a spine and be willing to use Maga tactics against them for the right reasons.

  10. Every daylight savings time “We need to get rid of daylight savings time!”
    Every presidential election cycle
“We need to get rid of the electoral college!”
    Every…..damn….time

  11. The electoral college is set at the number of representatives and senators I think. If you only allow one rep to have 500k citizens, I think the EC can work.

  12. Bored_guy_in_dc on

Lets get that constitutional amendment going! Oh, wait, it will never pass. That’s right.

  13. deranged_goats on

Let’s replace it with ranked choice voting and an actual multi-party democracy. Not this two party system we have now

  14. I think Walz is onto something—abolishing the Electoral College could make our elections fairer and reflect the true will of the people. It’s time to move beyond outdated systems that don’t serve everyone equally.

  15. FBstolemyshitposts on

But then the GOP would need to win the popular vote by changing their policies to make them more popular. That’s not fair 😂

  16. Erogenous_Nectarine on

With a popular vote, the only way republicans win is by adopting popular ideas.

  17. ”I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go,” Walz said at a campaign fundraiser with California Gov. Gavin Newsom Tuesday afternoon, according to pool reporters in the room. “We need a national popular vote that is something. But that’s not the world we live in.”

  18. I just can’t see it happening. What we need are States like Georgia, NC, Arizona moving forward with assigning their electoral votes based on the national popular votes

  19. Also known as, “We’ve pumped 20+ million illegal immigrants into swing states and want total control when we grant them citizenship”.

Yeah, no thanks clown. That’s why your campaign has resorted to beer drinking on Colbert and “I own a Glock” to win over Americans.

People privileged with a brain see right through you.

    While I agree

A more realistic goal is to overturn The Reapportionment Act of 1929 and uncap the House. Unlike abolishing the EC, which would require a constitutional amendment, overturning that would only require a congressional majority.

Not perfect as lower populous states would still have somewhat of a heftier vote in the EC (due to two Electoral Votes coming from Senatorial seats).. but it would go a long way in balancing out that disparity.

Also comes with the benefit of being the “original intent of the founders” that the GOP likes to tout louder than any other. So they should be all for that.

  21. Typical partisan response from Walz. Forget the founders—we, the elites, know better. Let’s see how he feels about the Electoral College if it hands his ticket the win.
