A graph of the percentage of Russian T-72 losses by type from OSINT researcher Richard Vereker. Overall, the same trend is observed as with the T-80 tanks – the older models are largely knocked out. The majority of current losses (around 70%) are T-72B3s from the 2022 model, i.e. T-72s reactivated after the start of the full-scale war and modernized in accordance with the restrictions caused by sanctions. As with the T-80B and T-80BV, the T-72Bs are almost exhausted in storage bases, and the Russians are gradually starting to reactivate older T-72As and T-72 Urals.

  1. NON_NAFO_ALLY on

It should be noted that basically every T-72, even the As were modernized into some sort of look alike for one of the largest two categories.

  2. Russia has lost and is still losing way too much in Ukraine. They had seriously big stores of soviet era equipment but are burning through it fast. Multiple separate reports show they have around 7000 artillery pieces left, or at present losses around 4 months supply of artillery, and that includes units in deep storage which they refurbish at about 1400 pieces a year. I start to see why zelensky believes the war will be slowing down a lot by the end of this year. The fact they are fielding mostly stuff from 2022 is telling, but it is when they are using and losing 2024 stuff a lot that the end of serious conflict will be reached.

  3. someone tell me what the obr 2022 is. like refurbished tanks that are made up to a “2022” standard?
