GOP senator ruthlessly mocked for saying hurricane victims don’t need tampons. “I think he means that menstruation stops if the President declares a natural disaster,” one commenter joked.

  1. “If it’s a legitimate ~~rape~~ hurricane, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

  2. Maybe that is the solution for the flooding. Just drop thousands upon thousands of tampons in the flooded area.

  3. >Nevertheless, continuing to criticize Harris, Kennedy said, “You know, the people of Appalachia right now don’t give a function about tampons. They need water. They need to get out. I’m sorry, I’ll say it again: You cannot make this stuff up.”

This is the guy who called Nancy Pelosi “dumb”. Somehow, he thinks menstruation just dies when hurricanes hit. Or does he think menstruations cause hurricanes? The logic is so absurd.

  4. “I mean you don’t have to absorb them.  You can just let it out.  Into the water.” /s

  5. I’m always so shocked by their lack of shame.  I feel twangs of embarrassment over stupid shit I said 15 years ago and they just shamelessly say stupid stuff that millions of people see and don’t blink

  6. If men had periods there would be tampon dispensers on every corner with cool “bro” designs.

  7. Sure looks as though Louisiana is *jealous* of Wisconsin for having the stupidest motherfucker in the Senate. Go ahead, try to take our crown! I triple-dog-dare you!

  8. People chalking this up to ignorance are misunderstanding. He’s saying this because he’s trying to appeal to a sort of male voter who will respond to “women have bodily functions and she talks about them openly; isn’t that *gross*!” The same driver that makes men afraid to buy their wives or daughters tampons.

  9. To be fair, I have actually spoken to a hurricane victim who didn’t need any tampons.

However, this particular victim did say they would be helpful for his wife.

  10. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2024/10/gop-senator-ruthlessly-mocked-for-saying-hurricane-victims-dont-need-tampons/) reduced by 74%. (I’m a bot)

    > Sen. John Kennedy is being mocked on social media for his ignorance about menstruating people after he criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for discussing tampons on a podcast while victims of Hurricane Helene are still recovering from the storm's devastation.

    > Continuing to criticize Harris, Kennedy said, "You know, the people of Appalachia right now don't give a function about tampons. They need water. They need to get out. I'm sorry, I'll say it again: You cannot make this stuff up.”

    > Charlotte Banks October 8, 2024 Well the MEN may not be thinking about tampons, but I guarantee you female survivors between puberty and menopause ARE. Perhaps what Senator Foghorn Leghorn means is that the only people of Appalachia who matter aren't thinking about tampons.

  11. A sensible person would immediately recognise that tampons might be in *more* demand, since shops were smashed and businesses are still closed. A sensible person.

No man should be stupid enough to question, as in doubt, what the needs of a woman’s body or menstrual cycle are. The GOP pumpkin heads seem to be such stupid men.

  13. Sen Kennedy is without hyperbole, an idiot. Like he’s actually stupid. Not a figure of speech. The only thing he excels at is letting his inner hate come out through his mouth

  14. Elite universities (numb nuts went to Oxford) should put in their terms and conditions that they can rescind your degree if your ignorance makes them look this bad.

  15. For a group of people absolutely obsessed with ~protecting~ “biological” women, republicans sure do hate when women have periods, a normal bodily function for someone with a uterus.

I really need someone to just edit together all of their awful takes on women’s bodies with all of their transphobic propaganda disguised as feminism. It’s maddening at this point.

  16. It’s not because they don’t understand how the female body works, it’s because they don’t value women as people.

  17. GlitteringHighway on

It’s the hurricane that cancels out the cycles. But it only works if it spins in the other direction. What “big hurricane” won’t tell you is…it increases the menstrual cycle’s power exponentially if the hurricane spins in the same direction. In the industry, we call it “syncing”. Just look at the recent flooding in Asheville.

  18. Seems like tampons would be significantly *more* necessary in a disaster area, since stores are closed, flooding will have destroyed a significant amount of the supply in the area, laundry isn’t easily available, and bathing isn’t easily available.

  19. I once had a conversation with someone that worked as an aide for a politician. To my shock, she told me how this politician didn’t understand why another aide had to go to the bathroom due needing to change out their pad/tampon. He seriously thought that women could control when they got their periods. She and some other aides had to give him a medical lesson.

  20. I once told a friend to just hold it like pee when I was a teenager.Learned a few things since.
