***From Rolling Stone’s Peter Wade:***
*Fox News Sunday anchor Shannon Bream tried to frame the vice presidential nominee as an extremist on abortion. He didn’t let her.*
Gov. Tim Walz vociferously defended his record on abortion rights during an appearance on Fox News Sunday.
“You signed a bill that makes [abortion] legal through all nine months [of a pregnancy]. Is that a position you think Democrats should advocate for nationally?” anchor Shannon Bream asked.
“Look, the vice president and I have been clear the restoration of Roe v. Wade is what we’re asking for,” Walz said. “This is a woman’s right to make her own choice.”
“But that law goes far beyond Roe v. Wade,” Bream interjected, adding, “What you signed, there’s not a single limit through nine months of pregnancy. Roe had a trimester framework that did have limits through the pregnancy. The Minnesota law does not have that.”
Also republicans: but you’re not allowed to replace it with something that gives *more* protections

Criminal it took the campaign this long to let Walz back on the interview circuit. This is where he shines.

The Republican’s “abortion in the ninth month” propaganda is particularly vile, because it’s
deployed specifically to enrage ignorant voters.
Late term abortions are not happening because someone decides at the very end of their pregnancy that they want the baby to die. It’s a ridiculous supposition; no doctor or nurse or hospital would be complicit in such a thing. These situations are rare and unbearably tragic, involving an in-utero death, usually of a baby that was wanted, planned for and loved.

I didn’t watch it (I probably should but the idea of watching Fox News makes me throw up inside). How did he do from the folks here at r/politics?

Why isn’t the campaign pushing back and BLASTING THE MESSAGE regarding the horrific rise in deaths from people who have a miscarriage and are then denied the health care of a D&C to prevent infection? more people are affected by this denial because so many pregnancies naturally end in miscarriages — by which point the fetus is no longer viable

Every time I see this I want to quote Pete Buttigeg.
“The dialogue has gotten so caught up in where you draw the line. I trust women to draw the line,” he said, cutting straight through the conservative framing that suggests that abortions, especially late-term abortions, are done thoughtlessly. Wallace pressed Buttigieg on that point, but his rebuttal remained completely collected. “These hypotheticals are set up to provoke a strong emotional reaction,” said Buttigieg. When Wallace shot back with the statistic that 6,000 women a year get an abortion in the third trimester, Buttigieg quickly contextualized the number. “That’s right, representing less than one percent of cases a year,” he said.
“So, let’s put ourselves in the shoes of a woman in that situation. If it’s that late in your pregnancy, that means almost by definition you’ve been expecting to carry it to term,” Buttigieg continued. “We’re talking about women who have perhaps chosen the name, women who have purchased the crib, families that then get the most devastating medical news of their lifetime, something about the health or the life of the mother that forces them to make an impossible, unthinkable choice. That decision is not going to be made any better, medically or morally, because the government is dictating how that decision should be made.”

Republicans must think OBGYNS are out there just salivating over the thought of aborting a 9 month old perfectly healthy baby with a D&C. A 3rd trimester abortion is when they induce labor or do a c-section on a baby that very clearly is incompatible with life and whose continued existence inside the mother is causing problems which might lead to complications such as future infertility and death.

Anti-Abortion implies there’s Pro-Abortion. Very few if any people are that. It’s anti-Choice vs pro-choice. Like agency? You’re pro-choice. You can be pro-choice and choose to not get an abortion yourself.
