Wow I can’t believe these vulnerable workers would be abused by corporations abusing them to avoid paying liveable wages

    >“It is important to note that each Canadian Tire store is independently owned and operated by a dealer, who is responsible for their own hiring, staffing and HR practices.”

Had no idea they were franchised. Either way this owner is terrible for hiring foreign workers when there’s so many Canadians looking for work. On top of that he hired them through an agency that charges foreigners $10k for it which is illegal, he withholds wages and mistreats them. Terrible guy and CT should have better firm HR standards that all franchisees must adhere to.

Breaking news: Billion dollar corporation exploits vulnerable workers, people are somehow shocked.

They need to start cracking down on these businesses. If they’re hiring more foreigners than Canadians, shut them down. They’re using loopholes to avoid paying fair wages. They know if they hire Canadians, they’ll have to pay fair wage and provide benefits.

The unemployment rate is too high for business to turn to foreign workers. Shut them down.

Wow who could have possibly guessed this would have happened? It’s almost like the TFW program should’ve been severely cut back instead of rapidly expanded like the LPC promised in 2014…

  6. did they refuse to extend their employment and now there’s an organized mass protest?

  7. >Federal government rules dictate that employers cannot arbitrarily decrease the wages of temporary foreign workers or materially change their job duties. If they do, they will have to apply for a new labour market impact assessment (LMIA), a document needed to hire foreign workers.

    >Documents viewed by The Globe show that Mr. Natarajan worked with an Alberta-based immigration consultant, Allison Jones Consulting Services Inc., to hire some of the foreign workers. Allison Jones charged the workers more than $10,000 each to process their applications for the TFW program, according to records reviewed by The Globe. It is illegal, under federal immigration law and Ontario’s Employment Standards Act, for an employer to knowingly use a recruiter who has charged a fee to a foreign worker to bring them to Canada.

Not surprised this is a LMIA scam. The owner of the Canadian Tire got paid $10k from each of the “workers” that they are now abusing.

The entire LMIA program should be scrapped. It’s 99% fraud with fake jobs.
