I’m always shocked when I see these ultra-close-range engagements by tanks. I assumed the HE rounds would have a minimum range at which they explode, but is seems like they can be used at 20 meters no problem. It must be super effective, because UA tank crews also seem to prefer this to using co-ax or HMG fire for this kind of suppression of enemy trenches.

  2. I’m pretty sure the force of air movement from the blast that close even if you aren’t hit by the projectile itself is going to burn and hit like a ton of bricks. Plus anything the projectile hits on its way to detonating is just bonus shrapnel so it makes sense.

  3. Imagine sitting in a trench and a tank pulls up to clear it. I would SHIT myself. What hope is there? What do you do? Shoot explosives at it and hope for the best? Run?
