  1. Rustad seems to be an outright fount of conspiracy theories. His recent comments about “regretting” receiving the COVID vaccine are now surpassed by his propagating of an international [“conspiracy theory that claims governments are trying to enslave people and force them to eat bugs”](https://www.npr.org/2023/03/31/1167550482/how-a-conspiracy-theory-about-eating-bugs-made-its-way-to-international-politics):

    > At one point, Rustad pointed to the opening of an Ontario factory that produces cricket-based protein – considered an environmentally friendly alternative to cows and other meat sources, but largely used as pet food – as a sign that efforts to confront climate change are going too far.
    >
    > “This is what they think is the solution,” he said. “Stopping cows from farting and belching is not going to change the weather, but I tell you what it will do – it’ll destroy our quality of life.”
    >
    > “We should not be expecting our kids to eat bugs,” he later added.

Personally, I do expect the kids to eat bugs, but [for different reasons](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Eat_Fried_Worms). (Thanks to Mrs. F. for reading that one to us in grade two…)

Rustad’s remarks also were riffed on by Eby earlier today, after a yellowjacket wasp flew down his collar:

    > Eby said he was fine after being stung, but the encounter was probably “fatal” for the insect.
    >
    > “The bee is not gonna make it,” he said.
    >
    > Eby later quipped on social media platform X that “with three hungry kids at home, this bug will not go to waste.”
