>The new subs will have to be capable of operating undetected for a range of 7,000 nautical miles, as well as a minimum of 21 days of continuous dived operations.
>The briefings to industry stipulated that the subs be capable of no less than 60 days of self-sustained operations. On board communication systems must be compatible with the U.S. military.
They really should consider nuclear subs.

Serious question: why does everything take so long with the government? It’s mind boggling slow, everything is bureaucratic and unnecessarily risk averse. No one wants to take responsibility and actually leads.

No worse than the ones we wasted money on buying used from the UK. Did they ever even manage to get those shit heaps operational? What a waste of tax dollars

Liberals should not be allowed to buy subs after last time

Anyone taking bets as to how long it will be before the submarines’ technology becomes obsolete?
My money is on two years before delivery.

By that time we would have self navigating submarines and this would be useless and then we will order that which will get delivered in 2050 and the cycle goes on!

That’s fine. By then we will own nothing and be happy.

I’m surprised we didn’t just grab a few OceanGate subs at this point. The Canadian way.

We won’t get nuclear subs because the Americans don’t want us to have that capability. The high cost, while a legit reason in itself, will be used as the excuse. The Russians are getting more assertive in the Arctic, and nuclear subs are especially important in that environment due to their ability to stay submerged under ice for extended periods of time. Our politicians will say it’s been considered and discarded, and we will end up relying on the US.

Should’ve been nuclear powered. These are just new 2nd class subs

So, getting subpar current technology in fifteen or twenty years?
