How The Government Of Canada Is Approaching The Renters’ Bill Of Rights

  1. Mass immigration as usual, into a housing shortage, to prop up falling GDP due to economic mismanagement.

  2. More rules and regulations are sure to help renters, lower costs and spur development. We all know how places around the world with rent control are some of the most affordable places to live.

  3. They are just propping up and stimulating housing now with their latest stunt. It’s all they will ever do

  4. I think it will amount to nothing. Housing and the residential tenancy rules are 100% provincial jurisdiction. So all they can do is ask the provinces to change the rules but they don’t have to.

  5. I mean can we just admit there are assholes on both sides and that property rights as well as renters rights should be protected equally. Nobody should be taken advantage of. It’s not an us vs them it’s an equal enforcement of rights and protections. The narrative that every landlord is an asshole and tenants are constantly abused is about as true as all tenants damage units and don’t pay rent.

The best fix to lower rents is to increase supply.

Instead we are going in the opposite direction. Compounding our issue by increased immigration targets while doing little to address housing shortages. The measures we are now implementing for housing shortages should have been done many years ago and more.

This is ignoring other social systems that are breaking down. Like public health and social services.

  7. A federal renters bill of rights would be unconstitutional so it’s just a waste of money

Are they approaching it from the perspective that it’s not their jurisdiction? Because all of this is a provincial matter.

  9. Lol, that’s like saying “the slaves’ bill of rights”.

Owning rental properties to seek profits is strictly illegal, as it’s a form of extortion. The police, and even judges, don’t understand the laws they have to enforce.

I’ll tell you what it’s not going to do, it’s not going to affect the wealth or income streams of the vast number of landlords in government or their landlord friends at the country club or their landlord moms & dads & brothers & sisters & children.
