  1. > “Whether it’s organizing a new party — look, it’s hard for me to see how the Republican Party, given what it has done, can make the argument convincingly or credibly that people ought to vote for Republican candidates until it really recognizes what it’s done,” Ms. Cheney said at the Cap Times Idea Fest in Madison, Wis.

  3. When Dick Cheney is voting for the Democrat you know the party you identified with has gone off the rails.

Modern day Republican Party is an extremist, fascist party.

Yes, the republicans should split into two parties. Everyone is saying this. For hundreds of years, everyone has wanted to do it.

I can only hope this is the beginning of Lindsay’s quote about the end of the party.
America deserves better than whatever the current RNC is.

  6. Annnd new laws about dark money.

Any new party will be equally as corrupted as the old ones with “Oh look, 1.2B from the Federalists! It’s not a bribe it’s a gift “

  7. Yeah, I do believe there’s a realignment going on among the right. Republicans for Harris is no joke and it’s the result of exactly what Lindsey Graham’s dumbass warned.

They didn’t listen, they welcomed maga with open arms, and they lost their party to a cult.

I really believe that we can stomp them out this election and if we do, I expect GOP civil war. You know trump’s going to run again if he loses and if he does, he’ll be their 2028 nominee.

  8. Evan as a liberal, I can still see the benefit in hearing alternatives and having my opinions fact checked. But the fact checkers have to be honest and fact based, well reasoned and rational. Today’s Republican party possesses none of these traits. Liz is right, a “sane” spinoff of the GOP is needed and it would be beneficial for everyone.

  9. I think the first step would be for ‘trad’ Republicans to identify themselves with a common label for what kind of Republican they are. It could be as simple as “trad Republican” or “Reagan Republican” or “Lincoln Republican.” Then state how this differs from the current Republican Party:
    1. Will not caucus nor vote with current Republican Party in Congress.
    2. Will not fundraise with current Republican Party candidates nor share money with them.
    3. Run 3 candidates in the Senate, 12 in the House, in seats where it can only cost current Republican Party candidates, ideally well-known and well-liked persons. Matthew Maconnahey in Texas might be ideal.

It wouldn’t take long to show that a few trads in Congress could halt all MAGA plots and plans, block any MAGA judges or officials. The value of the MAGA brand would fade.

I would love it if Cheney and Romney got together and formed a Conservative Party.

Let them split the right wing vote. Democrats would win 60-70% of the seats.

  11. I don’t know why anyone thinks the GOP is going anywhere. They’re still firmly entrenched all over the country and have a literal cult following which will never abandon them. Unless there’s some incredible blowout this year, they’ll still control most state legislatures and likely will win the US Senate, even if Trump loses. They’ll continue to pass MAGA policies in Florida and Texas, plus other places, and they’ll obstruct any progress in Congress. Their power will still be quite large, and likely we’ll be facing Trump or his handpicked successor, probably his son, in 2028 again. In the meantime, the GOP will continue to take over local election boards, as in Georgia, to subvert our democracy.

Right now, there’s no room for another party. Every election from here on is do or die. Dems will need to win every single time unless somehow the cult is broken, which seems very unlikely if not impossible. These moderate Republicans will have to stick with Dems if we want any chance of keeping democracy afloat.

Most democratic countries have multiple parties to choose from.
Most democratic countries also have a coalition government.

It forces the parties to work together instead of fighting and bitching at each other to get a majority.
The US is in a constant deadlock with the two parties constantly blocking the others bills and proposals.

    So more is good!

  13. At least 2-3 more political parties are needed but it wont happen unless we make massive changes to the system.

  14. I think the key is to develop two new parties that would represent roughly equal parts of the electorate. A party between Republicans and Democrats and a party to the left of Democrats. This would require real, European style coalition building in congress and would be more representative of the electorate.

The problem with a third party is that the Democratic party is already conservative. They are just not as racesist and sexist as the Republicans.

  16. The Democrats have moved so far right that Reagan would feel at home with them. The new party would need to be far to the left

  17. They don’t need a new party. They need to grow spines and stand up to MAGA. Push them out and say they don’t share the same values as republicans. Make MAGA go third party.

Ugh I can’t stand this woman. While democrats were clapping for her and saying how brave she is, she was providing cover for that traitor scumbag Ginny Thomas. So who is Liz really working for?

  19. Holy shit yes! Fucking please make a conservative 3rd party to split votes and lose the next election in a fucking landslide.

  20. This is the direction I expect everything to go once Harris and Walz get into the White House. The GOP as it is is just too infested with maga garbo.

  21. We 100% need ranked choice voting so we can legitimately have more than the Racist/Sexist/Fascist party vs the Fiscally conservative party. I’m definitely pro-Harris, but let’s not pretend her presidency will be the Eco/Social Justice progressive party that a lot of Americans would like, and it would definitely help frame how incredibly NOMAL (even conservative) the Dems are, versus what the GOP have been spewing…well, since Nixon really.

  22. She’s probably right. I’m a republican voting straight ticket democrat for the first time in my life. The current republican party is off its fucking nut full of crazies, hillbillies, religious fanatics, and straight-up weirdos. They left me behind; I can’t keep up with all that shit.
