  1. From the news:

    >The United States has dismissed claims made by Venezuela that the CIA plotted to assassinate President Maduro and other top officials.

    >Three US citizens, two Spaniards and one Czech national have been arrested on suspicion of plotting to destabilise the country, the Interior Minister said.

    >Calling the detainees “mercenaries”, Diosdado Cabello claimed that the CIA “is leading the operation” and that hundreds of weapons had been seized.

    >The US rejected the claims, which come after Washington placed 16 senior government officials under sanctions, as “categorically false”.

  2. Yeah, those detainees are innocent. The regime just wanted to seem tough and capable while acting as though “The American Empire” is to blame for every single one of their problems- as opposed to it just being the natural consequences of being nothing but a gang of petty crooks who thought *a government* was the best front possible.

  3. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czxgl2zjgzzo) reduced by 76%. (I’m a bot)

    > The United States has dismissed claims made by Venezuela that the CIA plotted to assassinate President Maduro and other top officials.

    > A spokesperson for the State Department said a US military member was being held and noted "Unconfirmed reports of two additional US citizens detained in Venezuela.”

    > In a news conference on Saturday Cabello said: "The CIA is leading this operation, and that does not surprise us but they, the National Intelligence Centre of Spain, have always maintained a low profile knowing that the CIA operates in this area."These two detainees even tell us about a group of mercenaries they are looking for to bring to Venezuela with very clear objectives to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, myself, and another group of comrades who are leading our party and our revolution.

  4. Maduro making up another “coup” to rally support, not much of a shock considering the country is still in turmoil after he blatantly stole the election… again.

  5. After the past Latin American experiments, I doubt USA wants to do this again, especially now in a post-Iraq War world.

Even knowing some of the shit the Agency did, what would be the point of this one? Maduro is a figurehead. Or lightning rod, depending on your perspective.

The Military is the only faction with actual control, killing Presidente Empanada would not change that.

  7. If you want to kill a politician, you don’t need a squad of assistants, you just need one guy with a drone.
