I am fully confident that we are further past the doomsday line than even these types of reports can recognize, that our understanding of the consequences of a multi-system collapse is naïve and oversimple, and that this is the end.
We like narratives. Narratives make big things small and turn complex into simple. “Technological advancement will save us” is a narrative. “Climate change is a hoax” is another.
“We can still fix this” is now a third.

We need moderation between oh shit it’s over we’re all fucked, and we can stop this.
I agree, in principle, we have overshot a lot, and the future doesn’t look like it’s going to be too bright. But the consequences of that sort of nihilism is that it lacks the context that – yes – actually – things can get worse.
We need action not to prevent, but to mitigate the even worse effects that come after.
