Judges may soon have to run for election in Mexico. Critics say that’s bad news for its democracy

  1. Two countries currently elect judges the US and Bolivia neither of whom should be emulated because it allows for partisan judges. A problem the US is running into right now quite a lot.

    I could only imagine how bad elected judges could be in Mexico.

    If for example a cartel successfully installs a judge (which let’s be honest they will) and just happens to dismiss all the cases against a cartel. This could only be bad for Mexico. Obligatory IANAML

    So I don’t know a whole lot about the Mexican system but I don’t get how this is a bad move or “bad for democracy”
