So first, I don’t actually believe we need any Long Duration Storage, because there are multiple studies/sources that suggests that the most economic path is actually just over build solar/wind generation with like a little bit of batteries (like I think less than 12 hours); some industries just have to spin down during winters… sorry!

There are a lot of talk about hydrogen and green biomass for long duration storage; I’m not super fond of hydrogen, biomass may work…

But okay hear me out, I looked around and couldn’t find show stoppers. What if we just have a bunch of aluminum laying around with adapters connected to existing battery storage. The round trip efficiency would be really bad, but who cares, we are only worried about the coldest winter nights. We sorta know around what month it would be the coldest winter nights, and we can just have those “range extenders” set up. Are there any show stoppers?
