On this day 10 years ago, Labour Leader Ed Miliband was photographed eating a bacon sandwich. The Sun used the photo a year later at the General Election, with the headline, ‘Save our Bacon’. The Tories eventually won a majority of 10 seats and a mandate for the Brexit referendum.

All he had to do was not eat bacon in front of them. ‘Save our Staffordshire oatcakes’ doesn’t have the same ring.
