  1. Submission Statement: Aura Sabadus examines how recent Russian missile attacks have targeted and damaged major Ukrainian gas storage facilities close to the Polish border, destroying much of Ukraine’s coal-based electricity capacity. This has serious consequences for European businesses and consumers by increasing gas prices and potentially causing energy supply risks and crises if Ukraine loses the ability to defend these important energy infrastructure sites that Europe relies on. Sabadus argues that Western countries need to provide more robust air defense support to Ukraine to protect these facilities and prevent deeper problems for European energy security this winter.
