Delaware Technical Community College’s energy programs are under threat of closure at the Terry Campus. These programs play a crucial role in providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the growing field of energy. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that jobs in this sector are projected to grow 11% from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). By closing these programs, we risk leaving our students unprepared for these future job opportunities and stunting our state’s growth in this critical industry.

Moreover, these programs also contribute significantly to Delaware’s efforts towards sustainable energy use and combating climate change. According to a report by Environment America, Delaware could potentially generate 100% of its power from renewable resources by 2050 (source: Environment America).

We urge the administration at Delaware Technical Community College not only to reconsider their decision but also to recognize the long-term benefits that these energy programs provide for our students, economy, and environment. We are asking for 4-5 years to show an increase in enrollment for these programs.
